  • How do I use Family Guardian to protect my children?

    Family Guardian is an Android-based app, which consists of a client-side app that you install on your child's mobile phone and a cloud-based center (the Family Guardian website) for you to work with. Once the app is installed on your child's mobile phone, you can manage when and how your child uses their phone to help provide a safe and connected digital experience. Getting started is easy, simply sign in to the Family Guardian website (family.nq.com) and then follow the instructions.

  • How do I see info from my different children on the website?

    You can install Family Guardian on multiple mobile phones. After adding a new child, you can see their profile pictures on the left of the Family Guardian website (family.nq.com). Click whichever child you'd like to check up on.

  • What is my NQ Account?

    You use the email address tied to your NQ Account to sign in to the Family Guardian website (family.nq.com). Once signed in, you can view your child's recent updates online.

  • What do I do if forget my NQ Account password?

    If you forget your password, you can reset it. Just click theForgot your password?link on the Family Guardian sign in screen.

  • Why do I have to provide my child's age range to set up Family Guardian?

    We use your child's age range to choose default settings, like which types of websites to allow and block. You can change these settings later or keep our recommendations.

  • What is the parent's number for?

    We send your child's check-in and emergency messages to the parent's number so that you can keep track of your child even when you're away from your computer. You can set up 3 parental numbers and edit them in the Family Guardian app settings.

  • Web Filter
  • What does the Web Filter do?

    The Web Filter protects your child from viruses, other security threats, and inappropriate content. You can choose which website categories to allow and block, depending on what you think is appropriate for your child.

  • What are the Web Filter block and allow lists? How do I edit them?

    You can block entire categories of websites using the Web Filter categories. You can also block specific websites using the Web Filter block list. If you find that you want to allow a specific website or two within a blocked category, you can just add that website's URL to the allow list.

    To add a website to the block list or the allow list:

    1. Open the Family Guardian app on your child's phone.

    2. TapParent Settings.

    3. Sign in with your password.

    4. TapWeb Filter > Web Filter Settings > Block List / Allow List.

    5. Type the website URL to block.

    6. TapBlock/Allow.

    You can choose to edit or delete items in the block and allow lists by tapping the item you want to change.

  • App Filter
  • What does the App Filter do?

    Because certain apps may contain inappropriate content not suitable for your child, Family Guardian gives you the option to block apps. Not only can you block apps already installed, but you can choose to block new apps as they are installed. After reviewing new apps, you can choose to continue blocking them or allow them.

  • Can I block apps? How?

    The app block list lets you choose specific apps to block on your child's phone. To set it up:

    1. Open the Family Guardian app on your child's phone.

    2. TapParent Settings.

    3. Sign in with your password.

    4. Tap App Filter > Installed App Settings.

    5. Select the apps that you want to block.

  • What are "New App Settings"? How do they work?

    New app settings apply to apps that your child tries to install. This does not apply to any apps already installed on your child's phone. You can choose to either block or allow apps as they are installed. After reviewing new apps, you can choose to continue blocking them or allow them.

  • Contact Filter
  • What does the Contact filter do?

    The Family Guardian Contact Filter lets you block calls and messages to and from specific contacts. Blocked numbers won't appear in your child's call or message history, but you can still check them on the Family Guardian website.

  • How can I set up block list?

    To set up the Contact Filter block list:

    1. Open the Family Guardian app on your child's phone.

    2. TapParent Settings.

    3. Sign in with your password.

    4. If the Contact Filter isn't already enabled, tap Contact Filter to check the checkbox.

    5. Tap Block List > Add.

    6. Add contacts to block.

  • Monitors
  • How do I use the Family Guardian monitors?

    There are several monitors you can use to help protect your child. These monitors report your child's activities back to the Family Guardian website for you to review. They can track messages, calls, browsing history, app downloads, camera photos, and location. Use these monitors to protect your children from inappropriate content and cyber attacks. Enjoy greater peace of mind with the location feature, which keeps track of where your child goes and sends updates every 30 minutes.

    You can turn each of these monitors on or off, depending on what you think is best for your family.

    To view your child's activity:

    1. Turn on the Family Guardian monitors on your child's phone.

    a. Open the Family Guardian app on your child's phone.

    b. TapParent Settings.

    c. Sign in with your password.

    d. TapMonitors.

    e. Enable the monitors that you want to keep track of activity for.

    2. Sign in to the Family Guardian website.

    3. ClickReportsand choose the desired tab that you want to monitor activity for.

    Note: your child's location is determined by their phone, which may use a combination of different technologies (GPS, Wi-Fi, Cell-ID) to determine their location. The accuracy of your child's location depends on the strength of these signals.

  • Schedules
  • What are the Family Guardian schedules? How do I set them up?

    You can use the following Family Guardian schedules:

    • Phone Lock Schedule – controls when your child can unlock their phone.

    • Texting Schedule – controls when your child can send and read text messages.

    • Calling Schedule – controls when your child can make and receive calls.

    • Browsing Schedule – controls when your child can browse the Internet.

    Note: Children can always make 911 emergency calls, even if their phone is locked and the call schedule is active.

    To set up your schedules:

    1. Open the Family Guardian app on your child's phone.

    2. Tap Parent Settings.

    3. Sign in with your password.

    4. Tap Schedules

    5. Choose the schedule type.

    6. Tap the add button to set up a new time.

    Note:The browsing schedule works only with standard browsers. Third-party browsers may not support NQ Family Guardian and are blocked automatically to ensure that you get all of your child's browsing data and enforce your Web Filter settings.

  • Panic and Check-In Button (For Children)
  • What is the panic button and how do I use it?

    The panic button lets your child send an emergency message to you with their current location. Your child can trigger an emergency message by:

    • Pressing the phone's power button 5 times in a row (within 2 seconds).

    • Opening the Family Guardian app and tapping the SOS Panic button.

  • What is the Check-in feature? How do I use it?

    The Check In button will send your child's current location to your reporting number and the Family Guardian website.

  • Can I remotely access the Parent Settings?

    It is not available right now. We recognize remote access to parent settings is an important feature and will add it to our future release.

  • How long is my child's data saved for?

    Your child's info is saved on the Family Guardian website for 1 month. After 1 month, this data will be deleted and we won't be able to restore it for you.

  • Can I do search my child's activities for keywords?

    This feature is scheduled for release in a future update.

  • How do I use the NQFind feature?

    NQFind tells you where you child is, even without them checking in. Simply send a text message to your child's mobile phone with only "NQFind" in the content. After your child's phone receives the text, it will report its current location back to you.

  • What's a geo-fence and how do I use it?

    A geo-fence is a virtual area, or safe zone, that you can set up for your child. If your child leaves the safe zone, Family Guardian will send you an email and record your child's location on the Family Guardian website.

    Setting up a geo-fence is easy. You can do it from the Family Guardian website, under Reports > Locations. Just click the Geo-fence tab and add a new one. Use the map to specify the center of the geo-fence and choose the name, radius, and a schedule (optional).
